New EVP/Provost Named

New EVP/Provost Named

Dear Colleagues, With the resignation of Feleccia Moore-Davis as provost of TCC, it is my responsibility to identify a new leader to take us to the next level. It is my great pleasure to announce that Madeline Pumariega, the former chancellor of the Florida College System (FCS), has agreed to serve the College in the newly created role of executive vice president and provost. She will assume her position with the College on May 13. This will allow a period…

Free Expression at TCC

Free Expression at TCC

As an institution of higher education, free and open debate in a public forum is part of our DNA. The forum that higher education provides to raise difficult and contentious questions of public concern in civil debate is a tradition going back centuries. At TCC, we have the privilege of welcoming students from all walks of life to our campus each year where they enter a learning environment that purposefully exposes them to new ideas, challenges their preconceived notions and…

Florida’s Colleges Measure Up

Florida’s Colleges Measure Up

Last week, Florida TaxWatch, an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit taxpayer research institute, released a report on the economic impact of the Florida College System (FCS). It assessed the return-on-investment (ROI) to both our students and the state of Florida, and the results are significant. For students, a graduate of an FCS institution can expect increased earnings of up to $838,023 with an average ROI of 12% over the course of their career. For Florida, the FCS generates nearly 10,000 jobs each year (beyond…

Happy Holidays 2018

It’s hard to believe 2018 has come and gone. As we wrap another year, this is a great opportunity to reflect on what I’m most grateful for as president of Tallahassee Community College. I’m grateful for our institution, the opportunity TCC provides for a better future for our students, and our legacy as one of the top two-year colleges in the nation. I am grateful for those that came before us and made us what we are today. I am…

Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day

Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day

Today is National Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day and I just want to take the opportunity to share my gratitude for our custodians here at Tallahassee Community College. A campus is often a new student or visitor’s first impression of a college. Their feelings about the institution and whether or not they want to attend are directly influenced by their perceptions of the level of quality and cleanliness of the facilities. Fortunately, we have one of the most beautiful main campuses…

Welcome to Fall 2018

Welcome to Fall 2018

Each August, as we prepare for the new academic year, TCC suspends operations for professional development and a campus-wide welcome back event, Eagles RISE.  This year, the theme of the event centered around WHAT, HOW, and WHY – what we do, how we do it and why we do it – based on a popular TED Talk by Simon Sinek. While the “what” and “how” of TCC is fairly straightforward, it’s the “why” that makes any organization special and our…
